The festival curated by Jay Visvadeva is a fantastic festival with an incredible line up of women of South Asian origin
Here's a lovely review and some great photos of a fundraising event for Calais refugees I was recently involved in. I performed alongside some wonderful musicians and the comedian Jeremy Hardy hosted by Jamie Renton at Bedroom Bar, London.
I performed 3 songs from my new project - Five Rivers as a trio - with David Wilkins on guitar and Matt Grabham on violin. Hear "Black is the Colour" one of the songs from our rehearsal in preparation for the concert. Autumn has begun with Najma giving performances around England.
We hope that you are able to make one of them. Presenting songs & poetry, expressed through the music of Indian Ghazal & Western Folk. Connecting vocal expressions through the rich musical landscape of the cultures that surround them. Najma Akhtar is a British Asian singer songwriter. Her voice has been described as “a heaven-sent gift” (Songlines), “immaculate” (The Guardian) and “enchanting and splendid” (All Music Guide). She has collaborated with many world-class artists, including Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, Andy Summers, Basement Jaxx, Jethro Tull and Philip Glass.
